Why do you have cramps after period? Abdominal pains are usually experienced by a good percentage of menstruating women after menstrual period. The pain in the abdomen is so severe that it can result into great discomfort in day to day life or stoppage of certain chore in each cramping day. Cramps felt after a menstrual period are traced to either implantation and pregnancy or other health conditions. The cramps are usually a pulling or pulsating pain in the entire abdominal area while quickly shifting down to the thighs and waist up to the lower back. The pain lasts for a few days after the menstrual period. Some cramps are mild and may taper off after a few hours but others are severe such that the suffering individual must take painkillers to relieve the pain.
Cramping after period can also be caused by the existence of intrauterine device or IUD placed in the cervical opening to block entry of sperms and prevent pregnancy. The abdominal cramps due to the IUD can be felt for a few months until the body of the female adjusts to the device which is considered by the body as a foreign object. Missing birth control pills can also cause variation in hormones which eventually cause the displacement of the endometrial tissue leading to cramps after a menstrual period.
Endometriosis can also cause cramps after menstrual period. This medical condition causes the irregular and sharp pain as well as bloating after the uterine tissues begins to grow unusually external of the uterus such as in the ovaries.The abnormal growths are not removed from the body to eventually cause breaking down and bleeding during menstruation. Fibroid and cysts can also lead to cramping after a period since these two conditions can exert pressure on the entire uterine system.
Cramps after a period or during the fertile stage of a menstrual cycle can also be blamed to swelling in the Fallopian tubes as a result of hormonal changes as well as to ovulation. Another cause is that the Fallopian tubes start to cramp to guide the egg down the Fallopian tubes and to the uterus. The center of the pain is in the lower abdomen either at the left or to the right. The pain can be less severe when compared to pains during premenstrual period but could also be worse.
